In June of '09, Phoenix Books, beloved eldest sister of Red Hill Books and Dog Eared Books, pulled up its roots and moved down 24th Street to our new digs.
The space, (formerly Noe Knits) at 3957 24th Street, is right in the center of things. True to our mythology, Phoenix has risen on 24th St, and Whole Foods has followed our lead by opening across the street. Obviously, they knew a good thing when they saw it.
Whereas we have an enduring fondness for the old storefront, we're loving the new location's extra space and light. We've been able to expand the children's section. And, don't miss our back room, with Philosophy, Poetry, Memoirs, Reference and other finds. Not everything is different: we've still got the same enthusiasm for books and book people that helped Phoenix thrive for 25 years!

Story Hour with Patrick at Red Hill Books Every Friday at 10:00am
The charming, debonair, and hugely talented Patrick Sosa has moved to our sister store, Red Hill Books. Every Friday morning at 10:00am, Patrick hosts Story Hour. Clap your hands, sing songs and of course hear some great children's stories.
So break out your Buster Browns, and bring your Itsy Bitsy Spider for a fun Friday morning at Red Hill, located at Cortland and Bennington in Bernal Heights.

Rather than stealing for profit, John Charles Gilkey steals out of the love of (or perhaps, lust for) books. Gilkey is pursued by Ken Sanders, a book dealer, determined to stop his literary crime rampage. Bartlett has written a fascinating tale that plunges the reader into the world of books and those who are compelled to possess them. People just like you and me... oh, OK, not really. Well, mostly not.
